In Germany, things are classier. If they're going to put beans in a can, they're going to spice it (which makes your chili sweet and your garbanzo beans suitable pretty much only for eating on their own.) And these are not simple "green beans." No! These are princess beans!
And they come in a can with a pull tab. Because they're fancy. Like a Mercedes. And because Germans like their stuff fancy, it's hard to find a simple white sauce. There's three cheese, and carbonara, and all sorts of other flavored sauces, but apparently humble white sauce can only hide under the edge of the shelf by its lonesome because it's not fancy enough for Germans. But what if you want to make your own pepper-and-chili-white-sauce?
Well, you have to be American enough to look at the very bottom of the shelf by the floor where they keep bulk stuff. But then, when you join forces with your chicken and your princess beans, you can make the old boring standby you used to make at home! And you don't even need to buy a bunch of flour that you won't end up using.
In other news, the pears are awfully good here. but in case you were wondering, you can only eat pears with a knife. I don't know if it's because the knife destroys less of the cell walls or if knives work magic on fruit (they also make apples tastier), but trust me. If you break the knife rule, you'll be so very sorry.
i got your postcards!!!!! thanks one million.
